Frequently Asked Questions

What does an educational therapist actually do?

An educational therapist is a highly-trained individual who works with struggling learners in a one-on-one or group therapy setting. Educational therapists are specifically equipped with the ability to identify and assess learners' learning needs. We create and implement individual educational therapy plans utilizing techniques specific to the learning goals for each learner. Therapists are passionate, skilled, relational, and empathetic. We are individuals who want to be a part of unlocking learning potential for their students through an individualized, therapeutic approach.

In simpler terms, think of me as a holistic doctor for reading! You can find my credentials here.

What is your area of expertise?

I have over a decade's worth of experience working with children and adults who are variously neurodiverse, however I specialize in Dyslexia.

What are your rates?

My rates are $100 per hour or $75 per forty-five minute session.

Why would I not utilize a cheaper option, like learning centers?

Centers may charge somewhat less, however they do not personalize their instruction and they have no experience closing the reading gap of neurodiverse learners. I am able to find out what areas my mentee struggles with and close the gap in that area using the Wilson Reading System®. I also take a holistic approach towards my mentees. I help them with their emotional struggles, self-esteem issues, organizational skills, and anything else that inhibits them from reaching their full potential, which is not something that any center nor typical tutor has experience in.

Do you offer in-person sessions?

No, I do not! Online sessions enable me to help learners all over the globe. It also allows my mentees to learn in a familiar, distraction-free environment that they feel safe in, which is essential for their success. I've also found that online sessions eliminate the time spent commuting, which gives my mentees more time to accomplish other tasks and pursue other interests, such as sports and other extracurricular activities.

How do online sessions work?

Please refer to How My Intervention Works.

What supplies will I need and how long will it take for a mentee to figure out how to use the online platform?

You will need a working laptop with Chrome or Firefox installed on it, as well as Zoom Video Conferencing. You will also need headphones with an incorporated microphone for your child, if they are comfortable wearing one. Finally, you will need a WRS Student Portfolio, found here.

It takes 95% of mentees one session to figure out the online platform! It is very straight forward and I am always there to guide them should they need help.
